Hi, found this forum through Google and it looks like a great resource!!
I have a Toshiba Regza 32C3030D, with what I suspect is an inherently easy to fix problem - if you know what you are doing. While I am capable, I have little experience with LCD TVs!
Its about 4 years old, and hardly been used which is even more annoying.
Basically, it won't power up.
Red standby light is on, you hit the power button, the green "on" light comes out - but the standby light stays on. After a short time, 5-10 or so seconds, the green light goes back off. Its infuriating!! No attempt to power up the screen or anything else at all. Im thinking capacitors gone in the power board?
TV obviously out of warranty, Toshiba no help, they just want us to buy a new TV which is understandable, but I don't subscribe to throw away society...
Any tips, ideas, things to check etc would be greatly appreciated. I have the back cover off, nothing looks obviously blown or damaged on any of the various modules...

Power on TV with power button on tv, or from the tv remote control??
If does not work tv control maybe, locked keys on the TV from the menu!!
FIX remote CONTROL TV!!!
Power on from tv control --> unlock the keys from the TV menu --> good luck!!

Im not using the remote at all, when working with issues I like to cut out the number of variables - power button on TV is what I am using :)

Hi RS,
You still have head hair - some Quuq folks are envious having torn all theirs out last century with tube tellies.
Keep the 'faith' - we rely on youngsters as we have already spent their future - Chris.

as with lots of stuck in standby faults the first port of call is generally the secondary output capacitors on the psu
and as a foot note hair is very much over rated !

CAn i ask you why you think its a capacitor problem and not a problem elsewhere?

Hair or not, note RS007 hasn't given panel details - don't have it listed panelwise, just some odd Quuq thread thoughts that don't seem to apply to current prob.
Secondary PS Caps for me initially, then elsewhere - Chris

As Chris has just said andy... where it me thats where I'd look first, was just meant as a wee pointer after all you gotta start fault finding somewhere !

Well if rs007 isn't an engineer or used to replacing capacitors, to start swapping them on a whole without taking voltages would quite possibly write of the board (that would be a lot of caps and a lot of time) and as none of them are domed then it probably wouldn’t solve the problem or rule out the psu.
If the stand by is rock steady and considering the model, I’d be tempted to look else where but if the psu is in a bad shape then it would have to be replaced. The cost of this and the actual fault on the set would mean it would never see an TV engineer or be repaired.
If the sets coming on then going off I’d be looking at another fault but that’s only my opinion.

fair play to you Andy it aint a pissin contest we're all just tryin to help each other along lifes rough highway and I don't doubt you may well have considerably more experience than me so if you suggest a different route lead on Mc Duff !

Is the stand by voltage steady? It makes sence to use a meter than to replace all the caps in the psu.

No reply, no nothing.
Perhaps rs007 has gone on holiday or possibly a member of the public looking for a "cheap" repair.
I think this is when someone who doesnt normally look at tv's posts on the forum and lets other engineers look for a solution so they don't have to pay an engineer.
With so many engineers struggling to make a living but money being so tight, you can't blame someone for asking. I hope I'm wrong and they're sunning it up on a beach.

Maybe proof of qualifications should be required before you can join the forum? But very difficult to confirm with today's data protection. Unqualified people don't realise how dangerous TV's are, and LCD are considered to be a safe low voltage device!! But they don't know that the bite from a fully charged main smoothing block could kill someone with a dodgy ticker, even if the TV has been off for a few days. I am sure most of us have been rushing and forgotten to check at some time! The memory of the smell of burning skin and flesh with an aching arm returns.
Back to the Toshiba fault, I usually find it's a problem with the main SSB board or inverter FET's with Toshibas, but I guess it depends on the chassis.

Jeez - what sort of qualification ? Must admit mine are a bit crumbly and deal with EY51 problems in Mullard oil filled projection triplers.
Good thought though, as we could perhaps be held liable for advice given in good faith - Guess Quuq site will advise - Chris.

A bit doubtful - As a 'Yarmouth' chap who did much nifty pool swimming in the 50's B4 the 'Aqua Lovelies' appeared - also recall that guy who dived from 30m into a herring bucket.

To my knowledge,every set has a warning from the manufacturer on the back cover.That warns people.So if you take back off you are respossible for whatever happens,so i dont see a problem.This site is prob the best on the net,so dont start with lets start making it a closed shop.The more we share the better we will ALL be.

Had one of these sets last week.Exactly same thing,switch on and standby light comes on,press chan up on set green and red come on together for about five seconds,then back to standby.Pressing numer 1 on remote,or standy on remote fired it up.Hope this helps.
