Title: Generic question guys- DVD Combi's
Post by: jimca007 on December 11, 2011,15:58:23
On these wee 15-22 inch combis with the self loading dvd trays. If the mechanism gets knocked out of alignment it takes me an age of messing about to it all working together . The question is ... is there an easy procedure for re aligning them, I've never heard anyone say there is.... but you never know !!!

It is much more common on DL-05 and DL-08 type mechanisms for the shaft of the disc motor to run a little dry on its bearings and therefore the disc cannot spin to its correct speed and an error is detected, usually resulting in the "no disc" message. Normally a drop of cleaner/oil down that motor shaft will fix this.

I have found with the cello's (Morrisons) whenever I have had a disc read error I found that the motor wasnt spinning fast enough or just not enough power to start the disc...a quick flick with the finger and the disc spun up.

Changing one of the caps...cant remember which one always cured this fault for me

A quick test for a motor not spinning up to correct speed ..
Do as Ken says and pop a drop of cleaner/lubricant on the shaft...
The disconnect the 2 wires to the motor ...ie isolate it ..
Check the motor voltage usually on a paper lable ...ie 3volts etc ...
Then apply an external supply at 2X the voltage ..ie if its a 3v motor apply 6v ..
Spin the motor up for about 5minutes at the inctreased voltage ..
reverse the supply so it spins the opposite way ...and run for another 5 minutes ..
Reconnect to the set and test ..
Chances are it will now read the disc ...but ...its only a temporary fix ..
These motors can often be sourced on the net ...but are very difficult to change as you can't access the screws under the small plastic turntable clamp disc ...
Some have through holes making this easier ...but IF you do decide to change the motor ..damaging the old one doesn't matter so much ...but even pressure is needed under the shank of the turntable is needed in order to keep the plastic in good shape..
Slow and gradual till the glue holding it pops free ..

Hi guys thanks for the replys all good stuff ! The actual thing I was trying to get at thou is when the customer has rammed a CD in and caused the mechanism to skip cogs so it doesnt shut properly or open properly or it closes but the clamp doesnt come down etc etc etc I've come across lots or non read situations and with a bit of exploration have got to the fault however aligning the mechanisms mechanically still takes me a lot of time and effort
