Title: Baird LC-37W18S intermittent red-green-blue-white screen
Post by: mattlumb on January 05, 2012,08:11:01
Happy New Year to all.

I had fixed one of these Xoceco made sets last spring - inverter had 2 large ceramic caps in series with a transformer primary - both of which had cracked solder joints.

Now the same set has a different problem - it will be fine for between a few minutes and a few hours, before displaying a single colour screen - which changes every second or so (i.e. red, blue, green, white....). The set does not respond to the remote after getting into this state, and power cycling always seems to fix it.  It is as if the processor has crashed or entered a set-up mode.

Daddymayhem had a set with a similar issue about a year ago, someone said EPROM but this is intermittent so I would doubt EPROM. Service manual was included with that post (THANKS Daddymayhem).

Before I get my hands on the set again, armed with freezer spray, anyone seen this or got any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

 Hi
It sounds like your set is in screen burn in mode ,
normally  if its a vestel chassis you just press Menu on the remote to exit it,
on yours you might have to put it into service mode and switch the burn in mode off,
replacing the eeprom might work as the set should factory inital itself.

Hi Matt,

Note you haven't said who made it or given details of panels, apart from Xoceco, who ever he is - he doesn't sound at all Turkish Vestel.

Clue us - Chris

Thanks for the screen burn suggestion, seems there is a way to turn it off from the service manual, but I need to get my mitts on this set (again), its not at my gaff yet and will let you know the panel nos. too Chris. Pretty sure its not a Vestel, Xoceco / Prima seem to be a Chinese OEM when I tried googlin' em.

Hi

I normally rub my hands together when I hear of the cycle of colours thinking "ahhh easy repair..press the menu button" no such luck Im afraid, I had exactly the same TV with same fault and menu button trick didnt work, changing the eprom didnt do diddly squat either..I ended up changing the mainboard in the thing to get it to work again...if the screen is cycling colours you have no way of getting into service mode...unless I missed a trick.

If I remember rightly the Main board cost me quite a bit, £50...but you may be lucky and get away with an eprom reset or replace...but dont gamble on it.

In hindsight with the cost of the main board for an older model like this is and Currys doing no one any favours with the price of new TV's then would it be really worth it if the eprom reset/replace doesnt work.

Put it on Ebay and get an unsuspecting fool like me thinking its one of those easy repairs :93:
