I have inherited a Samsung PS-42Q96HD with a faulty PSU.
I have replaced several caps and it's now working ok.
Only fault I have now is that when I set the colours, Brightness all well for up to 30 mins then the picture goes blank for a moment and all setting revert to factory defaults, this then stays until you manually set them again and it repeats itself.
Years ago Philips TVs has a similar fault due to a defective eeprom, or is there a software update?

Eeprom-software update

I wouldn't mind betting the tv is in "shop mode", sometimes called "store mode". In this mode the tv will always default to the attention-grabbing showroom settings after a period of time, to compensate for any alterations made to the settings by clients.
To restore to "home mode" press on the tv control panel ,'Volume' and 'Menu' together, for 5 seconds until the Start Plug & Play message appears. Follow the prompts. At one point it will ask you to choose Home or Store. Select Home, it'll go through autotune and at the end, you can adjust picture settings with confidence.

Hi Downunder.
Do I press Vol+ and Vol- and menu all together or only Vol+ or Vol- as when I press menu & Vol+ I get "guide" If I press both "Vol" together then "menu" sometimes it goes blank and for a second a message appears "store" then goes and the pic returns within 1 sec, (no time to adjust anything) have tried several times but it doesn't appear every time. I am using the push buttons on the RH side of the TV not the remote!

Update.....
If I hold Vol+ and VOL- and Menu until the screen goes blank and keep on pressing the three buttons I can get "Shop mode" for about 1 sec, how do I adjust it from there as it's gone to quickly? I have tried each of the buttons but none appear to adjust it....
Thanks again.

Does appear to be in "Shop mode", then. Was just going by user manual. Option to change it may be in one of the user menus, otherwise, if you select Auto Tune in the menu and proceed from there, it may come up in the process.
Always appears in the welcome screen when first turned on from new.

Thanks Downunder, it now works correctly. Thanks again.

That is good, then. Too many options on TVs nowadays.
