Title: Hitachi AV3000E tuner/media box
Post by: markjd on December 11, 2007,09:06:02
This is the media-controller box that comes with several of Hitachi's plasma displays, including models 32PD3000E and 42PD3000E amongst others. They have a habit of going bad with a specific fault, where the controller box and display will switch on fine so long as they're not connected together, but as soon as the cables are linked up the controller box clicks on and off continuously, and the screen never displays a picture. I've heard this was a bit of a design fault, and Hitachi have some sort of upgrade kit that needs to be fitted in the controller's power-supply which usually cures the problem, but I haven't been able to track down a supplier. Does anyone know what the kit consists of, or what else could be causing the problem?

thanks in advance
Mark

That's awesome stuff mulja!

Voltage on pin 1 of  the PDP  cable was definitely out of spec, and STB+5v was low too when I first tested it. Believe or not though, when I powered on and off one more time after reconnecting the cable, the display suddenly decided to come back to life.

Looks like I either have a slightly defective cable, or the simple act of running my meter across the terminals on H901 unlocked a switch condition somewhere in the power circuit.

I'll be ordering a new cable just to be on the safe side, but very glad to have a working display again in any case  :)

My AV3000E has developed another fault now. This time F902 (t2A/250v) keeps blowing. Does your repair guide have any suggestions on what could cause that? I've checked the main diodes and they're all good.

thanks in advance
