Hi everyone,
I've had the following TV for about 3 years and it's just suddenly done something very strange.
I'd been watching TV for about an hour and then all of a sudden the picture went from normal to almost white as if the brightness has been turned up to 200%. I can just see a picture through it but it's like it's been overlaid with a bright white haze.
I unplugged the TV and left it switched off (unplugged from the wall socket) for two days. When I switched it on it took it about 5 minutes before it went bright white again.
Interestingly, switching channels or video input sources switches the screen brightness back to normal for about 5 seconds and then when it shows the picture from the source then it immediately goes bright white again.
Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it as it would be a shame to dump it ?
The TV is a Wharfedale 37 LCD (LCD37F1080P).
Thanks,
Chris

Resolder stabilizuer IC on T-CON board
-
Hi jordan,
That's brilliant thanks so much for that. I'll get the soldering iron out tonight.
Can you advise on what the stabiliser IC looks like or where it's generally located on the T-Con board ?
Thanks,
Chris

T-con board is smaal bord up the panel, conections with ribbon cable to signal board. This SMD IC is with 3 pin to stabilizer smaal voltage. When is hot lost conection

Also look at the ics on the T-Con board. Look for a small square one marked AS15-G, AS15-F or AS15-U.
If present, feel the top of the ic when the tv falters. If it is very hot to touch, that ic will be faulty and is notorious for causing your fault. It's a 48 pin ic so if you cant solder at this level, a replacement T-Con may be your answer.

Hi jordan and downunder and thanks for all your help.
I've just got around to taking the TV apart and this is the control board in the TV:
AUO - T370HWO2 V0 Control Board 06A22-1B (found here: http://flattvparts.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4738 (http://flattvparts.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4738)).
Just thought I'd give some feedback in case anyone else has this problem and needs to know what control board it has before taking the plunge to take their TV apart.
Also in my TV you have to unscrew and move the plate that the main board and psu are attached to as the control board in my TV was underneath that with it's own cover so that had to be removed before I could remove the control board.
downunder - I've found the AS15-F ics which is pretty obvious as it has 12 solder points on each of the 4 sides. It's just below the ribbon connector on the right hand side of the board when you are holding the board with the ribbon connectors at the top and the main board connector at the bottom.
jordan - I think the three pin SMD that you are talking about is just right of the main board connector. It seems to have two pins soldered to it's right hand side and a flat pin soldered to it's left side. Is that the correct SMD ?
Now going to get out the soldering kit and see what happens. If I fail then I'll see if I can get another control board or a TV.
Thanks again,
Chris

I have exactly the same problem with a Vizio VS42L FHDTV10A. The T-con board is the same as yours: T370hwo2 V0. Have you had any luck so far?
-
Hi rgkain,
No luck so far as I have not been able to source the part. I have tried replacing the three pin SMD but the problem still remains. I haven't got small enough soldering equipment to change the AS15-F ics. Let me know if you get any success with yours. Good luck.
Many thanks,
Chris

no luck so far on sourcing the T-con board either, except as follows:
emailed this one but no response yet.

this one lists foreign providers.......not sure about them.

I took a chance and ordered the part from Aliexpress, supplier name "K R Electronics Store" in china. Ordered 12Dec, received 24Dec. Board was $54, shipping was $8. Put the board in and problem solved!

Did you check the smd f1 fuse on the Tcon board? As more than likely it would have blown. Alongside c303 and to the right of the LVDS connector
