Title: Panasonic Plasma TV TH-42PX70B vertical coloured lines
Post by: chess010 on March 04, 2013,14:31:37
My panasonic plasma tv TH-42PX70B shows very thin vertical lines of various colours and also some white vertical lines about 5 inches in from the right hand edge as lookingat screen over a width of couple of inches. These are displayed on all inputs and als on teletext etc . is this repairable and if so what is the procedure some internet indicates that needs replacement panel and also some information indicating that it is a known manufacturing fault is this true and can I get replacement from Panasonic even although long past warranty as is now more than 5yrs old set.Any help appreciated

hi, press on the top of the set, see if the lines disappear if they do ribbon fault, if they don't possible  screen fault

Scratch the T-con, it's a plasma. Looks like panel failure to me. Dont know if Pana had wholesale panel failures in the UK but I doubt it and dont fancy your chances on a 5 year old TV.

hi,i think  it might be best to call an engineer to give you a free Estimate if possible, on a repair  this would be quicker for you than us trying to explain the parts of the tv and how to test, i'm not being funny in any way, just don't want you to get shocked or hurt trying to find out

I have had a look inside and disconnected the C1 board ribbon which feeds the same area of the screen where the vertical very thin coloured lines (see photo in earlier post)are and I then get black band over the same area but also get the same  thin lines also  so not sure that it is to do with this board or ribbon seating on to this board .can you advise on other possibilities or should I just through this set out? if it is the screen does anyone have idea how much they are to replace?

Disconnecting the C1 board from the panel removes the data supplied to that section of the panel, hence the black vertical band. If the lines are still present in the black band, then the panel is knackered since there is now no external influence in that area. Personally, I send the set to the knackers. A panel will likely cost more than a new replacement TV
