hi i have a sony kdl40ex723 it has a tranlucent yellow band down the centre of the screen does anyone no what this could be at all many thanks for reading

Looks like a screen fault.

is there anyway i could test for this? or any way to repair it ? here is a video to go with it

i'd take the frame off and power the tv up and touch the ribbons see if the yellow line goes, if it does go then you have a faulty screen u can bond rubber on the ribbon stop it flexing, but this only a temporary repair. it may give the tv a few months more use good luck

Check the picture on another tv using AV Out sockets on the Sony. A normal picture on the monitor will generally rule out the main board. This model also has built-in test patterns to check the panel. If the patterns have the same band, panel is faulty. You have to access the test patterns in the service menu.
