This set works fine.but when I press menu,it comes up very dark or fain looking...never seen this fault before.

hi try putting back to first startup by keeping menu pressed about 30 seconds clears a lot of different problems
or update software

 It's most likely a faulty panel and I'm fairly certain that this fault used to afflict the AUO version fitted to these sets.

If you look carefully you will see some lagging or ghosting on fast motion and dotty speckled effect when you get up close. All the customer has done is to increase the brightness and contrast to compensate but this does not increase the brightness of the OSD.

Contrast and brightness turned up full...still dark looking.

Have you checked what panel its got? As I said sounds like a dud AUO to me, had it many times.
