Title: Sony KDL-32S2030
Post by: OldLes on October 08, 2013,12:23:55
I have a Sony KDL-32S2030 with sound but no picture.
Plug in, press "ON" and green LED lights up, relay clicks, and after a few seconds the backlight comes on. No OSD or pic. I don't have the genuine remote, but a multi purpose one will switch it to standby and back on OK. Red led in standby as expected.
I have checked all the PSU voltages according to indications on PSU board, and all present and correct.
With an input to the scart, I get sound OK, but no pic of any sort.
I THINK this is the WAX2 chassis, but though plenty of general info, no actual circuit diagrams.
Any suggestions, and does anybody have the manual?
Cheers, OldLes.

Well, we found time to play with this again today. On the main (BE) board, we found the three fuses, all of which were perfectly OK. (F7000, PS6000 and PS7000).
The T-con board seems to be part of the display section, so nothing in the manuals that could help. (We have both the training manual and of course the manual for the set, thanks to Jordan).
After carefully removing this T-con board, we examined it in detail (using both binocular microscope on Xs 10 mag), and a USB microscope. Nothing we could identify as a fuse, and all components do carry a circuit reference.
Any other advice, or do we scrap it? It does not seem that it can be much, but what?
Les.

Connect AV OUT to a monitor and see if BE board is processing video (tuned to a tv channel, say), to the monitor. If so, it'll exonerate the BE board to some degree. Are you getting 12V up to the T-Con? My guess is a faulty T-Con since you get neither picture nor OSD. Tried the old "shining a light into the panel front" trick to see if there's any sign of a picture?

Well, we had another look at this today. Following your suggestion, Downunder, we connected a monitor. Not possible to see the MENU screen, but good sound and video output to the monitor from a DVD input to the Sony.
To my surprise, when I change "Source", with an aerial connected, the set was fully tuned in. (Here on this small island there a number of relay transmitters, plus N Ireland which I receive, plus Border). Usually I need to tune in, impossible without a visible menu, but not today!
I checked voltages up to the Tcon board, and there were at least five +5v pins, but no +12V. The manual actually shows a +12v source, but it is "greyed out", and marked NC.
It begins to look as if it is a faulty Tcon board, but do I spend money on it, or just scrap it?
The board carries ID mark   320WSC4LV1.1. Prodding and poking achieves nothing.
Les.

I wish you luck sourcing a T-Con for it. I spent a lot of time on the net looking for a T-Con for a              KDL-32S4000 last night but didn't even get a sniff of one. Cest la vie.

Thanks sparks, tried em, they only stock 3 types of Sony T-cons. Also tried Chas Hyde. Ever hopeful.
Whatever happened to Turnip......retirement home, perhaps. He was the reason I joined this forum.

Hi Downunder,

Retirement in the UK ? - No chance if you still want to eat -

Truth was, I tended to make observations after an evening glass or two of home-brew, and after re-reading the next day, decided only make comments in the morning - I don't talk much - Mornings.

Otherwise, got the hang of many basic probs, and Fleabay is now heaving with panels, great if you get the right screen version mainboard.

Heard that our 'Sparky' had retired, but he still keeps popping up with 'words to the wise'

Next biz - trying sort Eeproms at last - Gear on the way from Fleabay.

Blank chips being 20p'ish and the genuine loaded article or a download is usually £15 a pop from usual suppliers, and they don't always work for the set in hand.

Regards to all 'Downunder' inc Frodo and our Judith Durham - Chris.

Ah, music to the ears! That's the vernacular I've been missing. Wont ask how the English cricket team is going. Might be a sore point for punters over there.
