Hi,
My Techwood 22FHD Combi (about three years old) gave a bang during a thunder storm and will not now turn on.
The PSU board has a damaged component like a regulator (three pin + metal tab mounted on heatsink). The front has been blown off it - disintegrated - cannot identify what it might have been.
There are no other physical indications of damage.
There are most likely other problems on the boards also, I suppose .
What would you advise ?

you would be better off buying another board off of flea bay :72:

I looked on Ebay and no joy at present for the particular power board.
It looks like the only boards that might become available are recycled out of non-workers and are sold as tested.
That might be worth trying. Of course there may be other damage to the main board :41:
Thanks

@ FIXITNOW
Was that rersponse meant to be blank ?
Nothing showing at this end :(
-
Hi Denis,
Note you give no details of anything specific, and no part numbers.
One might just whistle - Chris.

Hi Dennis
Fixitnow
he was asking for part number read his reply correctly
-
Hi Sparky,
Guess you can suss problem with no actual info - Well impressed - Chris

Ah! FixitNow's response was embeded in my quote and I missed it :(
The power PCB is Vestel 17IPS17-2 . I now realise that this may be a generic PSU part No. and I may need to open the set again to get the Techwood part No.
I also came across a referewnce that said the 17IPS17-2 is now replaced by 17IPS17-4.....
It's a bit of a minefield - tracing parts.
I did get a repair shop in Ireland who would repair the psu board for Euro 50.00 or replace it for Euro 75.00,
but of course the other boards may have also suffered damage.
And the Main PCB would cost Euro 97.00 to replace, if dud.
3 years old - cost Euro 250.00. Possible current value Euro 120.00.
Maybe best to write it off at this time.

Hi Folks,
Know nothing about 17PS17-2 or even 17PS17-4 - Never yet met one,
Would like some info if anyone has any.
Guess chopper chip could be the same as other Vestel 17IPS so perhaps a mend is possible.
Seems lightning struck from mains supply rather than aerial, so main board may well be OK.
Just a thought - Chris.

Attached is a PDF of the PSU - found on the net :)
Gives me a place to start ?

The component that is obviously damaged is a STR-W6253 -
described as a "230 Vac Input PWM Switching Regulator"
Perhaps there is a repair kit for this PCB ?

This is a pic of the PCB.
IC 800 has a hole blown in it :(

only 17IPS17-2 I have seen
Fault Symptoms: Set dead
The Cure: The T3.15A wickman fuse (F800) was o/c caused by two of the bridge rectifier diodes having gone s/c, I replaced all four with BY133 diodes (D800-D803).

Thanks you :)
That is useful information.
I'll check on those items too.
I should check ALL components in the vicinity of the regulator that blew open :(

Hi DenisM,
Agree with Vince - Maybe replacing IC801 and R859, as opto-isolators often get it in the neck with a P/S pop.
All the best - Chris.
