Title: Philips 23PFL5522 - Trouble with VCR
Post by: Turnip on October 26, 2014,08:51:00
Hi Folks,

Have a customer complaining of 'top pulling' with pre-recorded tapes. Tried VCR on the bench Vestel and no problems.

Back to cust's and it pulls on most everything taped.

Wonder if there's anything to adjust in the Philips menu ?  - Thanks - Chris.

PS - Bruce - Don't suggest a pitchfork, as went looking for mine yesterday when firing up garden rubbish. The grand children seem to have lost it somewhere in the wood having a wild adventure of some sort. They never recall where they leave stuff, and the wood is some 6 rambling Acres -

Admit it's not mine, as owners don't go for townies like what I is.

Hi Chris
Try  tuning in on analogue ch 0 or ch 8
it does like scart input

Hi Chris,
The old flag-waving trick, eh! TV has bipolar disorder. Thought this prob no longer existed, but it takes me back to the days of tacking resistors on the back of the line modules of K9 TVs.

No mention of it these days, not even on the Philips service website. Note that VCR reproduction on flat screens
was fairly iffey on RF, but most VCRs these days don't have RF Out. I take it you're using Composite Video which was about as sophisticated as older VCRs got. Unsure about the User menu, but there may be something in the
service menu.

If all else fails, you may have to find that pitch fork. You've tried another TV. What about trying another VCR.
"Where on earth am I going to get oneof these?", you ask! Don't know about CH 0, suspect it's no longer relevant these days. Is it possible to change format of TV say, from 1080i to something lower...only a thought.

Hi Sparky,

Not trying to take the mickey out of you, but most mfrs [at least here in Oz] did away with RF out many years ago.          Bruce

Hi Bruce and Sparky.

Bought the customer an 'Out of Africa' DVD on the Flea, and copied it, as was the main problem, as she liked the music for some reason.

No accounting for taste - Cust now satisfied - well a bit, currently - Chris.

You are a sly old dog, Chris. Perhaps you were a buccaneer in a past life. I like it.

Hi Bruce,

You seem to have some addiction to Dickens - Great chap, he sorted novels in the smoke before sensible folks

Sorted wind farms - Admit a severe winter could have us Anglo chaps well in the shit as politicians suggest we are at least 7 per cent down as long as the wind blows, and the sun shines.

Bit doubtful - Guess provident wind energy can lift water back to higher sites to be used as needed.

Admit wind energy is  dubious and variable, but guess need go for it - Chris.

Hi Folks,

Found a solution - Double DVD of 'The Constant Gardener & Out of Africa' on the Flea - Real cheap.

Did a copy of 'Africa' for the cust.

Being used to VHS she was confused by a menu, but eventually got with it.

She also grows nifty Red Grapes, got a bunch or two, Esp. for her who must be obeyed.

Trouble was - She'd just bought some from Tesco, and without pips. So had to eat them meself - Real tasty though.

Cust says there's more, if cards are played right.

Guess Telly Bashers always get good options, even at 72 - Chris.

More grapes, Chris...... You'll be able to trample them and make some decent vino. Then you can give up the poor man's wine of the turnip variety. Go Italian, no.          Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Well, it's a thought but the old gal only has a 8 x 12 greenhouse, but Norfolk Turnip fields stretch out like Kansas cornfields, where Turnips are as high - well, you know the rest.

Have grapes myself, and trampled enough this year for a modest pint-o-vino - need an awful amount of grapes to be serious.

Daughter has a South facing slope, now well planted with grapes, as English wine is becoming the biz with global warming.

Tried some great stuff recently from a serious chum of hers, and had to admit it had something over Turnips, maybe taste - Chris.

In the days of the CRT tv, Philips used program number 0 to tune your vcr into
did you try connecting thru the scart connector?
Its being a long time since I heard of this problem, as there is not many vcr's out there
I have a vcr here, I must connect it to my lcd tv to see what happens, that's provided it still works

Hi leonard085,

Our Sparky suggested much the same solution, where using the analogue VCR modulator, and selecting Channel 0 that Philips used for VCR, top twitch was sorted.

Had forgotten, but assumed such stuff was history after DVDs became the biz, and DVB Flat screens replaced tube/analogue stuff.

Gave the gal a DVD. Picture much better, and with a menu, and her top doesn't now twitch - Chris.
