Title: B&O Beosound 8 - No go.
Post by: Turnip on November 19, 2014,06:59:54
Hi folks,

Have one of these Ipod docks which doesn't function - Checked the Power board and the always 5v is present, but it doesn't switch on and there are no LEDs lit.

Checked the main side of the PS and primary voltages are present but nothing from the chopper TX and the secondary dual diode is OK.

Any thoughts ? - Thanks - Chris.

Hi Chris,

As with TVs data corruption can cause this! If you can find it, check that the oscillator is running on the micro, I've had dry joints on SMD crystals in similar equipment.

Thank Keith,

The logic board is stuffed full of chips - Well it's a B&0 who never go for simplicity, ever.

Only mentioned as this bit of gear was expensive, good sound though, folks say.

Guess a Quuq chap may well  come up with a shematic - Hoping.

Hate B&O, always have, but admit made a pound from their '70s TV sets where made cash from the dry joints they sprinkled about - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Bit of a secretive lot, this B&O mob. Maybe they should rebrand them KKK. Haven't been able to get my hands on a service manual. You're on your Pat Malone.                    Bruce

Unfortunately Bruce is right, no schematics available. Best to return it to B & O for repair, saves pulling out hair!

Hi Bruce and Keith,

Guess you're right, but as none of my customers want to spend more than a fiver. Doubt if will go back to B&O.

Suspect they bought it on Fleabay for a quid or two, where they can recoup cash with a free entry.

Hell of a job getting it apart, hope remember where all the screws go, as B&O make everything difficult - found had to remove the speakers to get the central boards out to check.

Thanks - Think avoid B&O (have tried avoid them for several years, but one always slips in) - Chris.

PS - Little head-wise hair these days.

They will have to buy a replacement at over £1000 then, will never understand some people

Thanks Keith,

When it came in, was a bit scruffy so natch thought Fleabay, as real folks wouldn't send a B&O in for repair in a dirty condition, as neighbours would pass the word and they would be dissed from social circles.

Not a B&O or Bose fan - pretentious stuff, though fairly good 'till we try mend them - Chris.
