Title: Sony KDL-40V2500 Goes on and off.
Post by: Turnip on December 18, 2014,15:28:12
Hi folks,
Have one of these where the set comes on normally then runs for two/three minutes then cuts picture and sound with the noise of the PS relay clicking - Led remaining Green.

Couple of minutes later it comes on again, then off again as before - then repeats. Thought maybe PS (1-871-504-11) or even inverter, but thought ask before I waste cash.

Any thoughts ? - Thanks - Chris.

Hi Vince and thanks,

Checked trannies and they all read 2.4k output to output. Thought to resolder drive chips, trannies and anything looking suspect - Still the same.

Noticed if I left the set on long enough through several cycles I eventually got a Nine flash error code, which doesn't seem to relate to anything in the manual, as 4 flash appears inverter error code.

Note that CSN303-00 / PCB2674 and partner seem Hen's teeth on the Flea - Chris.

Hi Sparky, and happy Crimble,

Was checking through Sony files and recall some dodgy diodes on the 5v supply of one model and another with a small value electrolytic cap in same area that gives trouble.

With an odd flash code that doesn't seem to relate to anything, problem could be most anywhere, just wish I had a screen smash, so i could narrow it down a bit.

Suggested to cust it would prob be 100+ Heard a gasp.

With a set this old, backlight tubes might well be the problem, although not noticeable from the front. Taking it apart so near Christmas to check 'em isn't on the cards - Last time I did a tubes change jobby on a 47 inch, I trapped a small fly that always appeared on the announcer's nose - Thanks again - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Code 9 in Sony is usually a fan error. Does it have a fan? Recall the earlier Sony lcd,s had 2 small fans mounted over the inverter boards, quite innocuous, but never had cause to replace.

Thanks Bruce,

No fans at all, esp. here - spent a few minutes checking error codes for the model on line, and came up with some - attached.

Gather with the RCU you can ask the set what it's problem is, but it doesn't stay on long enough to reply.

Hoping, as it's so near Crimble, customer will go buy a new one so can chuck it on the pile 'till something cheap turns up - Thanks again - Chris.

Hi,

as a WAX2 chassis I doubt of the FEE board;had some bad experience with that board.

Merry Christmas to all.

Hi Mike, and thanks,

Had a good FEE board 1-869-656-21 kicking about - did the job and set now stays on and tunes DVB.

Must admit it needs a hell of a strong signal as it captures 114 but displays rather less - Nothing between BBC2 and BBC4 - Might be an update issue - But doubt any Upload, as they don't seem to happen, even at any time.

Old sets are really horrid, Esp. Sony with the Memory Stick Update Biz where you need to initiate it initially with a Sony camera - Give me Vestel every time, as you don't have to buy a Sony camera first to try do the job.

Happy New Year - Chris.
