Hi folks,
Had one in stuck in s/by where changed 2 x 1000/10 bulgy caps on P/S and all OK.
Back next day where Led flashes 4 or 5 times, Osg appears for half a second then cuts with the Red flash issue - Any thoughts ? - Thanks - Chris.

Replace Eeprom
-
Hi Jordan and thanks,
Not yet managed find the Eeprom, no-one seems to stock it pre-programmed.
Don't suppose it's like some other Sammies where shorting out two pins while turning on might do the biz ? - Thanks again - Chris.
Then found I couldn't sort a service manual FOC as Elektrotanya doesn't have it, and other folks want an arm and a leg, and Samsung isn't helpful for more than a user manual.

Hi Chris,
I cant find that model FOC either. But I was under the impression that if you replaced the eeprom in a Samsung and powered it on, it would automatically load the data after it goes through a few splutters. You may have to check that it has loaded the correct options in the service mode.
Probably worth taking a chance on. I've done it before on some of the LE series (LA in the antipodes).

Thanks Bruce,
Had a check around for Sammy 'LE - A' stuff and no manual gives any ideas about the mainboard, though mostly BN41-00980A.
Had noticed folks didn't care give P/S info, as they didn't make 'em, but suspect Samsung should admit making the main board, if they did - Chris

Hi Chris,
We are assuming the eeprom is faulty. Short out pins 5 and 6 if of the eeprom if you suspect the eeprom is disabling the TV.
Have you tried unplugging the PSU from the Main and forcing the PSU on (100 ohm R between STB-5V and PSU-ON) to make sure the PSU itself is functional and generates the right voltages.
Otherwise, you can solder a long link across pins 5 and 6 of the eeprom, refit the main board, turn the set on then cut the link after a few seconds. If the eeprom is still functional, it will reinitialize the eeprom. Bring the tv out of standby and perform a factory reset in the service mode. Have saved many Sammies this way.....only once did I have to put a new eeprom in, and it initialized itself. Good idea to check the options afterwards.
See how ya go.

Hi Bruce, and thanks yet again,
Sammies are famed for duff PS caps corrupting Eeproms so that was my first thought,
though on replacing the duff caps where the set worked normally, thought I was on to an earner,
'till next day when it came back where I replaced all other secondary caps to no effect and guessed the Eeprom had possibly bolted overnight.
Guess shorting pins 5 & 6 as you suggest will either clear of confirm Eeprom issues.
Can't wait to try - Thanks again for the 'heads up' - Chris

Hi Bruce,
Tried check Eeprom and got a whole page of 'F's using the clip, then soldered Eeprom with LMP to a header.
Still a page of 'F's so suspect Eeprom is duff. Note chap on Ebay is doing genuine AT24C256 chips at a pound inc post while stocks last.
Thought get some, as Sammies are troublesome, and mostly use the same chip.
Still curious as they are supposed to reload from somewhere within the set, but good folks have supplied bins that might be useful.
Curious, as ever, will be fun when Atmel 24C256's arrive - Chris

Hi Chris,
The proof of the pudding, as they say. Guess eBay is the modern-day version of Oil-drum Lane. Harold should have kept up with the times.
I did once fit a conventional-pin eeprom to a Sammy. It worked, but never again. Those solder pads are way too small for such extravagances.

hi turnip can't you use a 24lc256 also check for dry joints on transistors thanks,
shaun

Thanks for thoughts.
Have chips in the post - Honest.
Some folks feel Sammy Eeproms should be initially loaded, but other folks suggest they are automatically loaded on installation from somewhere on the main board.
Not at all sure, but have several possible 'Sammy' bins to try - Chris.

Hi Folks,
Problem now sorted with a LE40A456C2B SSB from the Flea where Eeprom didn't need adjustment.
Gather with this model a blank Eeprom can't load automatically - shorting pins at switch on doesn't do it.
Attach a working bin - Chris.
PS - Interesting thought - With some Sammy Bins when read with EZP2010 - tend to get a first page of blank 'F's but scroll down a bit to find the data - Got me worried for a while.
