Hi Jim,
Had the 47 inch version where the backlight tubes were dubious. Didn't have any so used 42 inch on wires. Fine but managed catch a small fly on reassembly that sat on folks noses.
Sorted that, then after a while the remaining tubes failed. Would have taken it apart again but the primitive DVB was rubbish, and needed a box for anything sensible.
Admit when working, was a fine picture, well it had four inverter panels - Master and three slaves.
Know as bought them from the Flea before I sussed tubes were the problem.
Not an earner - At least with PCL85s, when pic crept up from the bottom, you knew where you were.
Bit of fun - A manufacturer based in Gt Yarmouth (Spencer West) thought the ECL80 the biz with it's 1.4 watts to sort frame scan - Natch' it didn't - They also used dual valves as were cheaper than singles, so sets also full of PCF80s, esp for Sound output.
Only upside was the firm made good wooden cabinets, as was their trade - Chris.

Wow 59 guineas ,bargain ,
i expect most people on here wont know what a guinea was
i started in derwent tv
and they also made their own tvs with solid cabinets, memory lane .
the story about the fly makes me smile,
i remember slowly sliding back the chassis into the cabinet
as carefully as possible just as the soot and dust fell down between the glass!
thanks Chris

Hi Jim,
Served a time at Rediffusion where they also made good cabinets,
Sadly the Rediffusion designed sets were mostly rubbish and if a set was crap, they merely re-boxed them in niftier wood.
On the up-side we also sorted the Bush 823 and Ferguson 3600 series.
Wasn't at all sad in '73 to become independent, but admit has been a bit of struggle since - Chris

this is all very well ,memory lane,
but i still cant get this beast from under my feet ,
any ideas on s mode access?
i also cut my teeth on the 823 in the good old "caring and sharing " co-op
-
finally found service menu access
set vol to 15,then with this still on screen ,quickly press red, grn, blue, yellow
this brings up factory menu .
sadly theres no lvds panel adjust( unlike on samsung for solarisation)
so im back to possible main panel fault ,im trying to now find a cct diagram
any futher thaughts?
