Title: Panasonic DMR-EZ47VEBK Picture and sound issue.
Post by: Turnip on January 31, 2017,11:42:11
Hi folks,

Just got one in where cust said it was OK apart from lack of DVB picture or sound. As soon as I pressed any menu option, sound and picture appeared. Pressed 'exit' - No signal, though OK with VCR and DVD.

I've had the problem before, but can't recall the outcome as forgot to write it down - Chris.

Hi Chris,

It may be caused by the massive AV Switching IC on the underside of the board beneath the VCR, but first I'd remove the DVD loader, digital board and their

mounting bracket, and check for obese capacitors thereunder. Don't recall having that specific problem, but caps on the power board have cured a host of

problems on these. The DMR-EX75 and the DMR-EX85 had the bad 680uF that caused loss of DTV, and there's one in this model as well.      Bruce

Yes, Vince, that's the one, although Chris's fault is slightly different.                    Bruce

Many thanks Bruce and Vince,

Mentioned I had had the problem before but forgot to note what it was.

Cust said he wasn't getting DVB so I naturally expected an issue, and when signal occurred only with the menu, I suspected it was a fault, especially as VHS and DVD worked normally.

Eventually thought to check output on HDMI and found it was there all the time, menu or not.

Penny then dropped - Set I was using was previously used with HDMI input, so menu, VCR and DVD forced set to go Scart, where it flipped back to HDMI afterwards with 'No Signal' displayed.

Made a note this time - Thanks again - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Think it's called "old-timer's", but I'm glad you found the solution.          Bruce
