Title: Panasonic DMR-EX79 dvd/hdd combo,dead.
Post by: bonesy on July 14, 2017,10:11:31
Opened this one up,100uf cap on power board, bulged & leaking, removed HDD to inspect main p.c.b.
Found a whole load of miniature electrolytic caps mainly 47uf 10volt 2-100uf 6.3 volt & 33uf 16 volt, all leaked o/c,replaced all,now working fine,no problems with duff tuning or av inputs. Was quite hard to find caps the right size on e-bay.

Hi bonesy,

Good of you to post your findings. With any Panasonic dvd recorder, caps are the first things to look for. Caps in their TVs have mostly been top notch,

but it looks like the standard has been getting lower on dvd recorders.                 Bruce

Apart from very old Panasonic TV's I've never changed a cap in one,I don't think. The ones in the DVD recorders, tend to be very small compared to normal caps & low voltage, but they are generally baked to death from day one buried under the hard drive or the digital board,in a cabinet with no ventilation.

Hi Bonesy,

Those little caps are quite an earner, mostly they sort the problem if they haven't gone short and popped the tiny buck chips under the board - Done quite a few - Chris
