Hi folks,
Have one in which appears O/C although the wires inside are unbroken. Haven't managed to unscrew the top without breaking it to see if it has a transformer, as suspect it's moving coil.
Gather the 'capsule' is 90% the price of a new mike at £150.
Wonder if anyone has had one apart - Thanks - Chris.

You 'may' have to warm it up to melt the thread sealant they put on, should this be the case then you'll have to get the screw thread as warm as you dare without damage.

Thanks Dave,
Customer was our local Elvis and took it back 'as was'. I'm not saying he isn't much of a singer, but the mike didn't seem to matter too much. Should he return I'll give it heat.
Loved the YouTube music, and of course the wires weren't broke as you can see 'em when you take the plug out - Thanks again - Chris.

One place where I worked we built PA systems and echo units for clubs etc... my job was repairing radio & TV's and sometimes I used to help out building and repairing PA systems.... lol ya' can always tell when it's a woman artist.... mic grille covered in lipstick, a Tom Jones artist grill all bashed in when he dropped the mic, sometimes there were half a pint of ale inside! We supplied Beyer mics, we did Shures once in a while but they weren't as popular.
One thing you don't do with mics is put them on top of a radiator I've seen done, could be the capsule.... doesn't help at all, could this have happened? The only thing is to get at the transformer and capsule end to check with Ohmmeter.
The wire might not look broke.... but the conductor inside might be. Just like speakers if they not melted voice coils you can bet it's the wire from the voice coil to the flexible lead, I've seen em broke at the lead end or just were they come from the voice coil.... repaired loads like that.

Checked resistance at the plug and all OK as guess there's a transformer in the capsule. Also gather you can't take the capsule apart for a look-see, or so folks say.
Anyway, 'Elvis' hasn't been back, perhaps he's expired - Chris.

The capsule gotta come out otherwise it wouldn't have gone in. I have seen it done but so long ago now.
I'm pretty sure the grill is in two pieces and the bottom grill unscrews from the base neck, which is then screwed into the body. I can't recall if the grill halves are held with three screws or whether they unscrew, I'd bet my last dollar that they do separate into three after removing the body.
