Check or replace capacitors and IC1501
-
Hi Dave, when the unit is starting up (please wait - hello) does the DVD loader give a single grunt, or quite a few? If so the loader is crook.

C1530 and C1533 if C1530 bulged it is worth replacing IC1508
-
First of all, no bulge caps and I manually opened the DVD tray and it shut itself but yes it does seem to give a couple of clicks, one of these is the laser resetting, I wouldn't think the DVD is the problem here.
Thanks Jordan, for what it's worth I guess no harm in replacing them, the chip and caps. sure is a common problem with this series. It was only last night I managed to get the service manual, so now I know what to look for, up until then I was working blind. I'll be doing some voltage checks.

IC1508 part number unreadable all I can get is the Panasonic part number, anyone know what it is, thanks.

Hi Dave,
IC1508 - MD5001T - Chris.

Hang on, guys. IC1508 causes error U81 - never known it to cause U99, which is usually the Digital Board.

Yeah, that's what I came up with, I've ordered one all the same..... and soldered many a 'yakky' joint... so rather than put it all back, I'll put it all back when the chippy whippy comes.
I wonder if Jordan meant IP1501 a chip fuse as I can't find IC1501, couldn't see it in the parts list either, we'll check IP1501 anyway, it's all in pieces at the moment.
Any clue what to look for on the digi Bruce? Appreciate all the inputs, thanks.

Hi Dave, I suspect that Flash Jordan meant IC1508.
Re the dig. board, it's a brave soul that attempts to repair one of these. I just replace. As a once-was Pana agent, I collected dozens of
dvd recorders, but alas, every one of them has been ratted for loaders and dig. boards. Next one that comes in, I'll be screwed.

Sounds like like Canon video cams, I'll wait for the chip to come and see what happens, done a load of re soldering, one leg of a 'leccy lytic' came clean out, wire links seems worse affected.... bath water mustn't have been hot enough when they dipped the board.
Thanks for trying Bruce.

Change four caps, and IC1508 still same showing U99 error after soldering many connections.
