I just ease them off with screwdriver, keep them in same orientation and glue them back on keeping them pressed down for at least a minute. Works for me

If you mean the larger funnel shaped ones, there are three small protrusions on the underside of the lens cap. Apply glue and line the protrusions with the holes in the LED strip. Just twist slightly until you feel them mate and click into place with some downward pressure. Clockwise or anticlockwise doesn't seem to matter.

It's all about the birds and the bees.                            Bruce

Hi,

Guess you're assuming new Led placed in exactly the same position as the duff one. If it's a gnat's off, lens issues ensue.

Tend to run backlights with the screen off, and adjust lens using a bit of translucent plastic 'till the halos vanish - Chris.

My replacement 3v leds are all back to front. When I put them in a string it wouldn't light up. On checking, they light up OK but with meter probes reversed. Number on packet is hs23d009 bought from china

Hi,

Feel paiol2 has a good idea - Note Bruce suggested them a while ago. Also note some LG leds have the polarity reversed compared to originals, where they don't quite fit as the pads are reversed. Usable but then then lenses have to re-positioned to avoid screen halos.

Note that Ebay now offers something like the original with the newer smaller Led diode, helping prevent screen halos with original lenses. Otherwise use scrap LG lenses as not too particular about Led dimensions - Chris.

Just had a 60" LG in where about 30 of the LED lens caps had fallen off and a mere touch of the remaining ones caused them to fall away. Been reglueing all 160 caps - these were the chunky ones common in LG panels. All terribly exciting.                                       Bruce

Hi Shaun,

Not replacing the LEDs, just refitting the same lens covers over each LED. When one drops off, it causes a bright spot in front of the exposed LED. If ever you suspect this, just turn the TV on its side and you'll hear the rattle of the dislodged caps in the LED cavity.

Suspect it'd be all automated, Shaun. No jig that I know of.

Just scored a 55 inch Panasonic with the same problem - LED covers dropping off. Unfortunately one of the strips failed during the reglue. Had to lift the reflective white backing sheet. Was glued in place like it was meant to last for eternity, so as I peeled it away it got wrinkled, creased and torn. Made a pig's breakfast of it. Tried to glue it back in place but it was all corrugated and the display looked very patchy to say the least. Plan B next time, if I come up with a plan B.           B for Bruce

Hi Bruce,

We in the UK now have a plan 'C' but nobody knows what it is - Chris.

Just bought myself 4 UV glue pens for 20AUD. Will be interesting to see how they work reattaching dislodged lens caps.       Bruce

Philips 50in set uses leds that hae reverse polarity from usual LG types. Typical Philips..simply years behind

Hi Sinclair,

That's Philips, always doing things differently, even their install modes take a degree in daftness to sort.

Like the UV setting glue pen idea, got a cheapy from China with a UV Led in one end and glue in the other, battery in the middle - No luck for me, didn't set. Tend not to use anything which can corrupt the light pattern if it gets on to the lenses. Experimenting with Black or White silicone sealants and water based White glue. Getting a blob the right size is an issue, note Ebay does syringes with small nozzles. Matter of getting the stuff in before it sets solid, speed is the essence - Chris.

Well, I've had better fortune with the UV glue. At least the UV can shine through the lens cap to set the glue. I like the Turnip Theory of making sure there are no light halos by temporarily placing the thick sheet over the LEDs before you glue a lens cap in place. Might seem pesky, but it much better in the long run.

Sorry Shaun, I missed your earlier post - yep, the 5 second UV glue.                              Bruce

Just noted today on a 60 inch Panasonic, that the thick diffuser had "burn in" from the LEDs. Above each LED was a 2cm perfect circle, and around that was a 5cm larger circle - I've not seen that before - and furthermore, if you looked straight at some of the naked LEDs, there was a halo of orange and yellow light. If you try to lift the white backing sheet, you'll find it's firmly glued from woe to go, so it's best to cut along a faulty LED strip and just lift it enough to work locally. Doesn't bode well.                                          Bruce
