Title: Samsung UE55KU6000K screen issue maybe.
Post by: Turnip on February 08, 2019,11:19:15
Hi folks,

Have one displaying thin vertical lines RHS. Suspect a screen issue but wonder if the T/con might be suspect.

Admit haven't yet checked the feed flexies both ends - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Panel most likely. Maybe an overzealous cleaner let detergent down the screen onto the driver strips.

Thanks Bruce,

Took a look and it's a combo screen, so waggled all the flexies, SSB to Screen T/con and T/con to screen. No difference at all so suspect you're right.

When the driver strips were at the top, heat killed 'em. How's about strips at the side ? maybe the other side from the edge lit leds to keep 'em cool and dry - Chris.

PS - This one seems backlit, so either side would do.

Hi Bruce,

As the set is relatively modern, couldn't the duff driver strip be re-attached with either heat or silver loaded paint.

Just a thought as haven't yet ripped the strip off to have a look, as folks might want it back - Chris.

Hi Chris,

A brave thought indeed ! The flexies attached to these strips are bonded on by a process called anisotropic bonding - check Wikipedia for that one. Each flexie has maybe 80 to 100 connections. Angels fear to tread, let alone those with ailing eyes and shaky hands from indulging in turnip wine.

There are facilities I believe that can do it, but the machines are worth thousands of $, and I've heard of "enterprising" chaps claim to run a warm iron along the strips, but you can imagine what happens to the flex when they-re attacked with an iron.

I've seen the flexies and the fine copper strips they attach to, that have become corroded by fluids. They become a gungy mess and after you clean them, they erupt in a puff of smoke when power is applied - it's surprising how much current they carry. Scratch that idea.

Mind you, if it's just that one or two contacts have lifted, a bit of padding under the metal covering strip to press down on a strip can work. I've done it on
a few occassions. But the older heavy Sony sets with the strips on top, the extreme left or right ones would lift. Packing would fix them, til you turned them on the next day - hours wasted. So I don't do them any more.

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Good head's up - Had a read. Don't indulge in the turnips 'till the iron is cool for the day where can afford to be whimsical.

Have to admit a while ago, puffed some nice stuff then looked at the duff telly from every imaginable angle but came to no definite conclusions. Got quite annoyed with myself, but more or less sensible by the afternoon - Chris.
