Title: UMC 33-188G
Post by: Turnip on March 13, 2019,11:47:57
Hi folks,

Feel all UMC sets total crap, but this is an old one where I replaced the mains switch some years ago, and has been working well since.

Now in as it switches from standby through the night, flips through channels then back to standby, waking the family. Otherwise OK for a few minutes.

SSB - T.MSD306.69A  Power Megmeet MP118T

Thought maybe duff PS caps, but can't see any suspects. Any thoughts apart from recycling  ? - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Auto EPG updating perhaps. See if it has that feature in the menu and switch it off. Maybe it was reactivate by a mains glitch or brexit.  Bruce

Thanks Bruce,

Will give it a try. Suspected as set does odd things at odd times. might be a PSU problem.

Deff not Brexit as nothing is yet agreed, nor will be. Bit of an European myself, but horrified as our Labour leader doesn't suggest another vote, having hands tied by certain unions who want to catch all the fish around the UK and so forth.

Recall back in the late 50's used to collect herring, too many to count at Yarmouth harbour. Not so many about today.

Sadly, used to hate herring at 12 as they had bones. Later learned to flip 'em with a fork - Too late.

Thought go for an Ebay Eeprom, as they seem popular. UMC don't do any updates for the model as seems the set has no issues worth mentioning.

Read new Eeprom then fitted it - Same as before but no channels stored. Couldn't try store any as the set continually turned on and off.

Don't like UMC as always lose money - Recall lost £50 on one 40 inch for Eeproms where set has two possibilities. Failure as set kept cycling on and off, rather like the current one.

Anyway, think attach the new bin - Might be useful - Chris.
