Title: Dead Goodman GTV42P6
Post by: sabre504 on December 13, 2011,14:11:58
Hi I have a Goodman  GTV42P6  plasma that I picked up to play around with (never touched one before) with the aim of repairing it so the kids can use it with the games consoles .
Bought as dead no power or standby lights opened it up and checked the psu after reading about repair kit and tested what I could before replacing the blown fuse .
Screen now lights up but is grey and there is still no standby light .
The boards either side have green led’s on them that are lit .
Basically is it worth buying a psu repair kit and seeing how it goes from there any input welcome can do pictures if needed

beware there are two different
versions of this board, when
replacing zener diode Z D 1 0 0 2 on th e
secondary check w hich part you take
out, the k it comes with a 1 2 volt
zener B Z X 5 5 - C 1 2 but some versions
are fitted with a I N 4 7 4 6 which is a 1 8
volt zener, if you fit a 12 volt zener
place of the 18 volt the set will work
normally for awhile then the diode
will go short circuit.

Hi Vince
Thanks that was the reason i was trying to measure it before i changed it
I will have to take it off the board and see if i can see any markings on it and try to trace back to see if there any other components that have shorted

Right problem solved  thanks to FIXITNOW i went back and rechecked everything tracing as to why i had no voltage at the zener diode .
All components checked ok until out of frustration i checked the fuse and it was dead popped in a new one and all fired up .

So moral of this misadventure even if its new check it  :s_laugh:
