Title: Hitachi HDR255 PVR - no go
Post by: Turnip on February 03, 2012,11:10:46
Hi folks,

Have one of these where on plugging in the 12v P/S nothing happens apart from the Hard drive buzzing. Cust said it was an intermittent prob and if she moved/kicked the box it might work.

Note this box has a good press (apart from skipping/jumping/troublesome sound/bad menu graphics and so on) bit like latter day Digifusion rubbish perhaps.

Not an On-line word generally on 'No Go' - not even on Quuq - heated/cooled/bashed it gently a bit, but no Leds or any go - any thoughts - Chris.

PS - Obviously tried another P/S

As you probably know kicking, banging or moving a hard drive could easily damage the platters if reading or writing, obviously you'll have looked for dry joints. What about checking the clocking oscillators, sometimes vias, those plated through holes can they give that kind of trouble along with earthed lugs on metal screens such as tuner modules, the screening forming a bridge to a different area of the pcb for example.

Just trying to stoke some ideas, that's all!

Hi Dave,

Guess you're an engineer not a technician - folks now want results for less than a tenner or they get a new gear from Tesco.

Chucked my CRO and most other gear some years ago as folks now insist on results without any theorising on my part - sad but.

Next life will be an Engineer and will doubtless starve - now off for a technicians tea - Chris
