Title: Pioneer 502MXE Plasma TV Problem...help needed
Post by: darrenkarp on November 22, 2007,13:19:07
Hi all,

Up until today the TV has worked fine apart from the occasional and annoying loss of picture and a flashing green LED. Turning the unit off at the rocker switch for 10 seconds and turning back on fixed that problem. The issue today is that the unit is dead. I've checked the fuse in the plug and that is fine. I can hear a very slight click when I plug the power cord in but apart from that no LED's are on, etc.
It sounds like a PSU problem to me but I'm no expert. Can anyone help?

Thanks
Darren

Hi, sounds definitely like a power board problem. Probably a cap has been failing and finally given up or something. Have a close look at the power board. Look for capacitors which are bulged out, smell of electrical burning.
replace the cap in question or if you have a cap tester, worth a couple of hours checking them all. make sure the power is removed as caps can hold charge for a long time. get the part number for the power board and see if you can get a replacement board. Try ebay etc as a new one will run to about £500 I think.

Remember these boards are sometimes interchangeable with other makes.

ie Sony, Philips, LG all use LG boards. Just a different video board to give the preferred characterstics.
