Hi,
Would also try council tips, as there's tons of useful stuff for a few pence. Got a pile of variacs some while ago, even one rated at 10 Amps - Useful for heavy stuff. Used to check daily until folks in power closed the local one down for economy - Guess landfill rules - Chris.

I suppose Chris also visits Harold and Albert in Oil Drum Lane, perhaps looking for a cheap 'orse to consume his excess turnips. Bruce

Hi Bruce,
Being a bit serious, as lots of scrap contains useful stuff.
Also ancients like me eventually kick the bucket, and relatives are happy to shove beloved gear into a skip, just to get rid of treasures from the past, where they don't quite see the value.
On personal demise, there will be several isolation transformers, quite a few variacs, couple of lathes (One British WW2 the other Australian - both screw cutting, admit the Aussie one doesn't quite go, as needs a motor) Gas and electric welding gear of several sorts, And several tons of quite useful stuff, plus the odd classic car from the 60s.
Could be far more specific but suspect would be tedious for Quuq readers - Chris.
