Title: Sony KV-16T1U - No go.
Post by: Turnip on September 07, 2014,09:23:57
Hi folks,
Don't usually do CRT stuff but this one is a little sweetie, and cust loves it. Note it uses a STRS5706 where input supply voltage is normal and the start up supply resistor gets warm, although voltages are lower than indicated in the diagram. Checked the three secondary diodes - OK, and with no shorts evident.

Any thoughts ? - Don't want to buy the chip if there are known problems elsewhere - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Overwhelmed by replies, I see. I don't suspect the STRS, these either work or become inert, or blow their face off. STRS6707/8 will sub for these. Is the line stage working, eg., do you have CRT filaments or 200V up to the CRT board. IF so, try advancing the screen pot, you may have vertical collapse.

The possibilities are endless, but the brain has faded on these dinosaurs.      Bruce.

Hi Chris

Highlandelectrix is always worth a look if the grey matter needs poking with a stick

Best to look under the chassis rather than the model number.

Thanks Bruce and Daz,

Also dubious about the STRS, but with input and no output thought go for it regardless of expense - did the biz.

Thanks Daz, tend to forget about Highlandelectrics these days, though used to use the site all the time if fault wasn't in that 'little Blue book'

Thanks again - Chris.

Hi,
I don't know  if you've checked  the Line Output transistor, but
if leaky/short the LOPTX is probably also faulty, worth a check
before changing STR (used to be common on the 14").

John

Thanks John,

Suspect didn't mention PS chip had normal HT input but no output, although secondary diodes were OK. Initially confused as there were a couple of chips to sort secondary voltages, as it's a Sony.

Just the STRS this time, but as it didn't blow it's top - was confused - thanks John - Chris.
