Title: Dell XPS-M1210 - Battery issue.
Post by: Turnip on March 01, 2015,09:26:25
Hi folks,

Have one in for CMOS cell and main battery replacement. No problem with Lithium cell but computer won't charge the battery. Got a non-genuine battery reputedly for this model, and gather there are issues ref. charging.

Some on-line folks suggested updating the Bios - Tried, and machine wouldn't give it a go without at least a 10% charge on the battery - Charged the battery (LH pin Neg - RH pin +ve) for a while with an Amp or two from the workshop P/S.

Bios then up-dated - But Lap-Top still doesn't recognise the battery, and also suspects the charger is non Original - which it is.

Seems like 'George Orwell' stuff where big Bro Dell is watching.

There's Lots of help on-line, but most seems total crap.

Any thoughts how I can get around the problem without getting a dedicated stand alone charger ? - Chris.

Forgot to mention that the only CMOS cell with lead and plug on the Flea was second hand and expensive.

Another Flea chap was however selling 25 new CR2032 tagged cells for £8.95 inc post, so got a few spares.

Hi Astrocat,

Thanks for your thoughts - Next time I heard from the chap, he'd broken off the charger power plug, so got another P/S from the 'Flea'

He didn't care to pay for the replacement battery so was unable to check. There's a thought however, that the P/S input socket is wired to suss non-standard Power supplies, with an additional pin somewhere on a two pin socket. He hasn't yet broken off the socket for me to replace it.

Thought later to have a look inside the battery, said 'Dell', most everywhere on the sub-panel - Surprised it didn't work.

Hate Lap-Tops, Netbooks, and anything by Apple, as can't mend 'em. Have great XP machines about where I just replace the duff bits no problem - Chris.
