Hi folks,
Had one in a couple of times where cust complained of disc skipping, so I cleaned the lens and sent it back.
Came in again so thought take it apart, discovering the spin motor, although seeming OK, was dubious using the AVO 8 on low ohms to check - They normally read about 80 Ohms + and spin - This one needed a kick start and read 10 Ohms, but still ran.
Be lost without the AVO, as Digital meters don't have enough push for a motor, but useful in their way.

Hi Chris,
I always find it worth while giving the spindle motor a little squirt of WD40 and running it in reverse direction to give it a clean.

Vive la AVO. I find an analogue meter indispensable. 10 ohms sounds a tad low, but who's to know. A grease and oil change should sort it.

Remembering Sanyo VCR mode motors, where if taken apart and the commutator cleaned of metal crap between the sectors, a pound was easily made.
Recently had the problem with audio cassettes where motors are now hen's teeth. Had one in where commutator shorts had duffed up the internal regulator - Had to mend as couldn't replace - Fun really.
Guess with CD motors costing pence, it isn't a useful option - Motors used to have Carbon brushes where the problem didn't arise - Metal brushes (although cheap) don't slide so easy and carve up the commutator. Note there are small holes for brush alignment, but never tried squirting anything in them - Chris.
