Title: Sony SL-F30UB - Betamax.
Post by: Turnip on July 30, 2015,11:13:28
Hi folks,
Have one in that customer bought 'working' from the Flea - Will suggest returning it if fix isn't pretty easy.

Tape loads, then on pressing any button of action, Drum twitches but won't spin - Machine then goes into 'Sulk' mode 'till tape is ejected. Tried giving the drum a quick spin to get it started, but it just wants to twitch.

Haven't done a Betamax for nearly 20 years but favoured Sanyo, as was near always the belts/idlers. This Sony just has one intact toothed belt for loading.

Wonder if anyone remembers ? - Thanks - Chris.

Later - As a bit of fun - Eventually noticed the first Beta tape supplied and tried had a break and therefore no tape to be loaded. Suspected might be the problem, but it wasn't, as second tape was intact but drum still twitched.

Hi Chris, it's been a very long time since I've seen any of these! I may be wrong but my memory is telling me that SMD electrolytics used to leak out and corrode the PCB.

Thanks, Keith and Watteau,

Guess you're probably right, as with Sony Audio CDs caps leaked and dissolved the print with the KSS240 sub-panel, mended some.

In this case customer was keen to get an E bay refund - Hope he comes back with a Sanyo, as still have belts and idlers - Chris.
