Title: Panasonic DMR-ES30V - No front display.
Post by: Turnip on September 07, 2015,10:05:39
Hi folks,

Have one in where replaced suspect caps C9125(680/6.3) C9126(680/10) C1209(680/10) C1223(680/10) and C1108(33/35)

Now functions but with no front display - Could I have missed a cap maybe ?  Also tried re-tune DVB but guess it doesn't have any.

Thanks for thoughts - Chris.

Hi Chris,

The displays in Panasonic dvd recorders are protected by circuit protectors. I've come across this many times. In the ES30, it's IP37501 located on the Digital PCB.

Look for a 5-pin IC37504 near one of the longer edges of the board. The fuse is close to it. Very hard to see (tiny) with our ancient eyes. Think you'll find it o/c. No idea of its value, but it's usually under-rated.

Only once have I ever had a faulty FL display. Service manual is on the forum.

FL display cable goes to the Main board, thence to the digital board.

Trying, Bruce

Hi Jordan and Bruce,

Felt a bit daft when I discovered I hadn't got the central front panel plug into the socket, as the front panel bulged a bit, so suspected wrong assembly - Sorted.

Took a while to discover it was analogue, though no DVB was indicated - Thought 2005 was a bit modern, but guess no so - Just Analogue

Thanks a lot, cust happy even though he didn't know either, just uses as a DVD player - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Thought occurred to me today that you may not have the bottom of the front panel pushed home.

Anyway, you spurred me on to check one I've been keeping for spares. A new MR4020 reg and fuse got it operational. DVD is OK, but VCR gives a "watery" looking pix. I've switched SQPB off and swapped out the VCR deck twice, but still the same.

Have you encountered this phenomenon before?

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Guess we all do something daft at times, for some reason the central plug didn't engage, though have done several before with no problem.

Not impressed about the 'Funai' VCR deck, suspect it's one of the last and hard wired to the main board. Have to lift the mode switch top with a screwdriver to give it a flush. Mind you, have had several where crap on the central IR pillar caused machine to stop, and another recently where the side IR receivers had moved around a bit after a loading cradle change, as chap was a bit brutal on cassette insertion - Chris.

Aye Chris,

Noted yesterday that it was the centre connector on the ES30 that carries the filament volts for the FL display. a good whack with the palm of the hand does it for me. anyway, all's good.

Have had a watery pix on the VCR in Panasonics before and a deck change has fixed it, but it looks like I'll have to look further afield for the problem, maybe power supply caps. I have a variety of around 100 vcrs,
dvds, combos, mainly Panasonics, that I keep for spares, which are like hen's teeth nowadays. Always trying.

Hi Bruce,
It's a good thought as there quite a few old folks who like VCR and Audio cassette machines, as they can easily remember how work them. Had several audio cassettes in recently and quickly discovered that motors and flat belts are hen's teeth, so have to mend old motors when they grind to a stop.

Thought of you today when a 'EnvirOmower ECO500' Battery Mower came in for a mend, as it wouldn't go. Fixed it then checked on line, where everyone knows that the roller microswitch in the handle falls out. The handle gets special praise, as when all the screws are removed, springs and things fly most everywhere, and it's really difficult to reassemble, as some bits go to the top, others to the bottom, and no securing screws for the LED display panel nor the microswitch - Bit of a fiddle, but a quiet day - Enjoyed Aussie engineering - Chris.
