Title: Aiwa NSX-V50, motor boating.

Strange fault here. I picked up the above HIFI for use in big shed. When we checked it with my little test speakers, one channel was making all sorts of strange sounds, recurrent, a sort of motorboating. RH seemed OK. I had a NOS output chip in my spares box, so changed it, but fault still the same. Perhaps my speakers? Connected to living room speakers, perfect.
Out to shed, a pair of quite good Samsung speaker.s (early 90's HiFi). Same fault.
I unplugged the black lead whilst I tuned it in, and switch off. Later after making shelf, I switch it on, and noticed LH speaker sounded perfect, but I didn't remember plugging black wire back in. In fact, it was touching the metal cabinet back!
Black wire in correct hole, bad fault, black wire out, silence, blackwire to cabinet, perfect!
Any suggestions? Les

Hi Les,

Only a suggestion.......check cabinet and PCB earthing screws, even though the speaker -ve does not appear to be directly grounded. Do you have the service manual?

Thanks lads, yes, my pal found the manual.
I tried another different pair of speakers and they worked OK with normal connection.
I think I will just ignore it, it does work.
One inherent problem with this unit. If you search for a station, you can ONLY store it in the next free location. I only ever listen to 5 stations in shed,  --  Manx Radio (FM), Radio 3, Radio 4, Classic FM, and Manx Radio (MW) this last for TT and MGP.
I will probably keep saving any station until I fill up all 32 locations, then try the above stations (in that order) for numbers 1 to 5.
The only way to delete stations is to change the "spacing". I assume 9kHz on AM now, but could change to 10kHz. But would changing back to 9kHz leave them all empty. And would this help FM, not sure if spacing is the same as or not.

Well, I tried filling all locations, but it would not store anything new after that.
Eventually found that pressing by pressing "Clear" followed quickly by "Set" deletes the selected channel, and moves all higher numbers down one place. By repeating this 30 times, ALL programme numbers were "emptied". I then simply tuned in the channels I wanted in the order I wanted.
In fact the "change channel spacing" capability does NOT exist on this particular version (presumably a UK only set".
Since the current speakers have stopped the motor boating, I will just forget it ever occurred!
