DMR-EZ48VEB - U81 Error

(1/1)

Mistycottage:
Hi Guys,

Just got a Panasonic DMR-EZ48VEB in for repair. This is the first one of these we've had, and after a few minutes of 'Please Wait' on the display it turns to 'U81'. Looking through the forums it appears that this error (U81) is normally due to capacitor decay/overheating, but was wondering if anyone had the service manual or could point us in the direction of one. I particularly want to know the expected PSU levels and best place to measure them, but any info is appreciated.

Hi Misty,

If you're lucky the cap C1530(100/25) under the DVD logic board will appear bulgy and can be replaced, and all well.

However if the cap causes MD5001T (Buck Reg) to pop it's top, can be replaced and sometimes all well.

C1533 nearby also bulges so replaced as a matter of course.

Fault can also be caused by the 'Back End Board' (FTV) or it's connections.

Just had one where changing the caps and MD5001T sorted it for a week, then it was back with U81 again. Changed the 'back end board' from scrap but still U81.

Best of luck but suspect it's too old to take seriously - Chris.

jordan:
Error code U81
Replace C-11708 (680uF/10V),C-11370 (100uF/25V),C-11711 (47uF/10V) on Digital board

downunder:
Don't forget to remove the DVD loader and its mounting bracket. There are usually popped caps under there as well.

Bruce
