Hifivox Production Barbieri - 60s Record Player
« on: April 21, 2017,12:09:16 »
Hi folks,

Just got one in for a problem where the turntable motor doesn't go. It has the usual rim drive with stepping whatnot, but the motor appears French and unusual in that it has four stator windings, two of which seem to use 0.75Mfd 1500v volt capacitors possibly to do the phase change biz without the usual copper loops.

Tried get some info on line, but nothing apart from pictures - Thought attach a picture as it's the strangest valve record player I have ever met.

Notice the caps have drooled a bit so guess might be the problem. Mention in case anyone else has met one - Chris.

Later - Found original caps measured a leaky 7 mfd so to China for cheap 10 mfd 250v A/C. Replaced the old caps and the motor buzzed but wouldn't revolve. Suspect the windings had overheated and developed S/C turns - Not a winner this time.
