Hitachi 32LD660b couple of issues
« on: September 07, 2011,17:40:43 »
Hiya,

I'm hoping to fix my Hitachi 32LD6600b tv.

currently i only have a sky remote (no original) so am limited with remote ablilities.

the tv turns on. a couple of seconds later i see "snow" on the tv tuner input. no channels have been stored, so only snow and channel number, input type on menu. after a few seconds a countdown as no valid channel selected.

the menu button, channel up/down, volume up/down and standby work fine.

the av button causes the tv to "lockup" and become unresponsive. only option is to power off completely and turn on again.

once on again, i am back to square 1. tv tuner input with "snow" and full end user menu access. I cannot change to another source. turning the tv on with vga input and scart input connected with live inputs still has the same problem.

If i am right, (which is unlikely  :yahoo:) the LVDS is working okay, if not the picture i can see (snow, menu's etc) would all be corrupt..?

I think it is a problem with the AV board? does this sound right to you guys? I am used to working with a multimeter and have mediocre oscilloscope skills

any ideas would be great - ty. if anyone has replacement board or remote for this, please feel free to say,

thanks in advance.

Hello,
Possible fault is memory corrruption.
If I'am correct, the main PCB is a 17MB15, and on these, the memory EEPROM is in
a socket (the eight pin IC near the centre of the board, a 24C.. something), it might be
worth replacing it with a blank one before considering a new PCB.
Sometimes, shorting pins 5, and 6, of this IC, then switching on willl reset it, see other posts
regarding this proceedure.
Regards,
John.

Hi watteau & sparky,

thanks for the advice, I will check on the memory, i didn't notice any socketed chips, but might have overlooked it....

your right, the board IS a 17MB15E-3. there are later versions (E-5 & E-7) however I am told these have different connections and power is wired differently, so they wouldn't be a straight swop replacement  :wink1:

I took the main av board (17MB15E-3) out and cleaned both sides with switch cleaner and a PCB brush. careful not to damage any components or soldered low guage cables... after leaving it 45mins in fresh air to dry / evaporate the cleaner, I re-fitted it and re-connected all the internal cabling,

after performing a factory reset via the service menu, the tv is working great!  :yahoo:

I've had it on test for 12 hours as well as checking other sources all work fine. other than quite a grainy image, it'll do great for my teenage son,

thanks again for your help,

kr,
