Sharp Aquos stanby light
« on: May 31, 2008,16:44:34 »
I have a Sharp Aquos lcd about 3urs old it turned itself off.The sound came back on with the remote then it too went off.The remote batteries are new.The nearest service center is in Honolulu and it will cost$100 =for shipping/ins. as well as $100 for shop charge + repair cost.I am not sure if it is worth it,a new version of the tv is at Costco for under$600.I am handy with tools and have worked on electronics before, the set is not under warranty and is just collecting dust.Any suggestions? Mike

Unfortunately m8 I have the exact fault in my workshop. Been in contact with other servce engineers and all, including me, agree that it should be binned, unless you want to pay that sort of money for a repair.

See Sharp Aquos post below, submitted by steph., below.

Sorry!!

What model number is it?
Some Sharp will lock up if protection is detected a number of times.
If the unit detects a lamp (ccfl) error 5 times it locks up & red LED comes on. Resetting uPC error may get it going again.

Of cause you may have a completely different fault.

I dont have that manual but you need to enter service mode and reset error data is one method. See if this works
Off at mains.Press & hold [input] & [vol-] on panel & power on at mains.TV comes on in [K] mode.Simultaneously press [vol-] & [Pr-] on panel & the Adjustment Process Mode will appear. On bottom line check if ERROR NO: RESET reads 1 or more.If so, the Lamp Detection was executed.Select bottom line & use [vol+] or [vol-] to reset to zero.

But if you get the service manual it should help. Some need options to be reset like model number (4:3) 16:9 models etc, due to data corruption.
Hope that helps
