Dropped plasma-not a repair question

I was removing the back of a Samsung 7yr old 46" plasma without laying it face down because Samsung stands dont fall off. Well this one did and the set fell and cracked the display. Since I feel guilty Im going to supply the customer with a 48" new Panasonic and just charge him for the original estimated repair - £60. Does anyone know what are my legal obligations in this case just as a matter of interest. The Samsung was actually a strange one as it has a metal grille inside covering the panels and also a plastic back, the stand only being attached by the screws..mebbe an imported set. Thanks

OUCH, that is unlucky, I don't know about from a legal point of view but from a moral one he's a lucky guy. Surely he can't be moaning at that.

You have a duty of care to look after the customers equipment. So you have to repair or replace the damaged equipment at your expense.

It's a thought with new stuff damaged by carelessness, but a seven year old Plasma that's worth nothing (not even if it's an LG - Tony)

Damage can occur - say, broken screen when replacing CCFLs or Leds, or a slip of the probe while checking voltages. Have a well explained policy that if it dies on on bench it's just life, or perhaps not.

Folks these days mostly chuck cheap sets when faulty, and can be surprised with an inexpensive repair - Chris.
