LG LED TV PUTTING SAMSUNG LED STRIP IN

Hi Gents ,had a 32inch LG with a bad LED strip . Didnt have a replacement so thought I would be inventive and use a strip out of a 32 inch Samsung .  The LG strip has 6 LEDs and the Samsung had 7 . Had to cut the white backing to get the LEDs to line up with the holes . Its been running fine now for 5 days but just wondered if anybody had done one before and how long it lasted . The LEDs are slightly smaller on the Samsung strip than on the LG one which I took out

I did it with a 32" Samysung about three months ago, this one had 9 on a strip, 5 in middle and two at each end at about 45 deg. I had about 5 gone, I replaced them with used ones from a LG - no problem to date.

I thought odd.... why the LEDs at end ends of the strips went on the power side. Did you leave the shades intact and chopped the circuit strip?

I do wish they used better sound though, I can get  better audio from a crystal set and a pair if Sargent Brown headphones - remember em'?

I know it's like the boss telling you "there's the shovels now take your pick" - it's a gamble.

Another thought, when you can't find a matching strip (and they never match the holes in the white backing sheet unless they're from the same model), is to take a good strip, cut off each LED on a strip of print, then joint each cut-off with a pair of insulated wires. Involves a bit of scraping, but the strip you end up with is then adjustable to match the holes, and can be made to any length (number of LEDs), and can be prefabricated ready to go when you need them. I have tried it and it works. A lot less fiddly than trying to transfer discrete LEDs which crumble at the first sign of heat, and there is no need to remove the lens covers. A bit tricky if the LEDs are in series parallel on the same strip.                    Bruce

Hi Davy and Bruce . The strip I took out of the Samsung was about the same size so I didnt have to cut it Davy . I was going to cut out the faulty LEDS and just replace the individual ones like you said Bruce but because I had not read about anybody doing it before I thougt it was maybe a bit dodgy. If you can just cut out the faulty LED and superglue a replacement in and just attatch wires to both ends then it will be simpler and cheaper than buying the whole strip . Seems to be a win win for us because we wont have to bother buying complete strips

That also is a good idea, Ken. Just cut a donor LED still on a segment of a strip and hard wire it over the removed dud  LED.                  Bruce

If only one or two Leds defect on a strip you can resolder it and bridge with a Zenerdiode!
