Hi, I have one of these sets that is stuck in standby. It will try to switch on then revert to standyby.
I suspect the LOPT but would like to be sure.

Hi,
I've not had LOPTX failure on these sets.

The usual cause is the big STK convergence ICS mounted on big heatsinks - try removing them from
the set and see if it comes out of standby(If set works you will get massive convergence errors on the picture)
Its always worth checking if you have had any coolent leaking on to the PCBS from the CRTs
because that can cause a lot of damage

I have removed both IC's. The set now gives the little tones as it tries to start up, but then goes back to standby.
Someone has sent me a manual so I'll have a look at that next.

Not sure but I think that would be correct. Samsungs detect scan & if not there it will shut down.
Could also be vertical not happening.
Convergence IC's are very common, check rails to IC's as some have fuses, as brainstorm says check very closely for leaks & corroded parts
