Philips 14PV120 - cuts to S/by
« on: March 11, 2009,08:40:03 »
Hello Folks,

Have a Philips 14PV120, the one with that great Funai deck. Only problem is that after inserting a tape it plays, no probs, picture or mechanical for about 4 seconds then set cuts to standby.  Think I have heard of this one before, but cannot bring it to mind or find it listed anywhere.

      Any thoughts - Chris Steele.

Hi there, and many thanks to KGM.

For interest, after 4 secs play the machine cut to standby with screen error code 'R' after 'Eject' after brought out of standby. Puzzling as reels were turning normally. Looked for some kind of opto and found that the 'tape end' central photo diode's transparent prism had an additional use, directing IR beam down through a slotted reel drive idler to sensor below. Nifty, and just a cleaning job.

   Thanks again - Chris Steele.
