Hello Group,
This set sometimes switches on and works ok but has distorted sound.
Most of the time at switch on the picture appears for 3 seconds and then blanks
out with no backlights. The distorted sound remains on.
Has anyone a circuit or suggestions.

hello ian

i havent had both these faults at once on the same set,but i have have them on different sets ,
the transformers on the invertors can become thermaly sensitive,warm both boards up, the backlight should stay on then freeze each transformer in turn you should be able to find the faulty one,
as for the audio fault this can be caused be the main signal pcb, check the larger of the ics if they get v.very hot very quickly you will need a new pcb.and dont forget to check the caps in the psu.

Hello Daz,
Thank you for the info.
The sound was set to the wrong system. Sorted out through the menu.
I tried your suggestion of heating the inverter transformers with a hairdryer. This got the set working
and then freezing each one in turn. Unfortunately the set stayed on and has not gone off since.
I am sure one of them is causing the problem, but which one !
There are 23 of them.
Do you know who stocks them.

you carnt get the transformers on there own,so you will have to get them off a scrap board,but the good news is the same transformers are used on the 40 inch and the 46 inch inverters.
one more thing i forgot to say was check is the large transformer on the psu that drives the inverters,these are prone to go dry joint and and can cause very int backlight faults.

Hello Daz,
I have eventually isolated the fault to one of three transformers on the right inverter board.
C/Hyde supply the master and slave boards for £136 (unable to buy just one).The customer refused the estimate, so time and effort wasted again.

Hi Ian, what are the numbers on the transformer or the board number, might have something as I have a few boards. Cheers, Norman.

Hi Norman,
The board number is SSB460WA22R and the transformer number is G BL-1040.
There is also another number on the transformer U 0736, but I think this is a batch number and not relevant.

Thanks to Norman for looking for a transformer and Sparky for another source of s/h spares.
I have now bought the left and right inverter boards from Ebay.
I will hopefully be posting the cure when they arrive and after a long soak test.
