Hi, Its usually the thermal fuse that has gone o/c. Short it out, I have never had one come back or go on fire! Hope this helps, Norman

Hi Norman,

   Have spent some while collecting thermal fuses from local tip junk for just this sort of purpose, just in case of a claim. Wouldn't do a transformer repair without one.

Hi Chris, I thought someone would chastise me for shorting the thermal fuse. It is not something I would not normally do, as these transformers are no longer available what do you do, scrap the set or fit something else which is not the manufacturers origonal part. If you do the latter are you not fitting a non standard safety related item. I would not compromise the customers safety or the sets by doing any repair which I thought was dangerous. Hi fellow diode modulators, I've been in lcd thinking mode for about 2.5 years now and get rusty with older tv faults. I used a similar tx from RS before and as for the fuseable link,how many tx's have one ?
    This reminds me of fitting similar tx's to isolate heater supplies of Philips widescreen tubes that suffered from heater/cathode shorts.
    I'm going to re-train as a heating engineer,we got bumped for about £800 labour charge for fitting and
re-siting of a new boiler. One guy worked about 10hours and the other 5 hours. Which works out at £53.33
per hour. Lots of times I can't get £53 a job !

Hi, Norman and John,

  Some time ago, after plugging my soldering iron leads into a 2 pin 3 amp socket to do the field chip job on a G11, deep in rural Suffolk, late one Saturday, I inadvertently burned out their earth leakage trip, leaving customer in the dark over one cold winter week-end.

  Spent a while expecting a horribly expensive claim - not insured 3rd party at the time - lost some weight. Since then, thermal fuses and fuseable resistors have been my mantra.

  As to central heating boilers - well, lots down at the tip. Just need a bit of welding for leaks at the bottom - design feature, I suspect - Chris.

  PS Regret being thought feeble, but life in a phone box might give the wife some more reasons.
