Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I picked one of these up just now with the same symptoms, thought it a nice idea to post a fix in case someone finds a similar set.
I did the old 'warm the caps' trick and found a 450v 10uF cap on the main PSU was iffy, replaced it and the set is now working like a charm.
The cap number was 2023 (I think) and is next to the second fuse and a relay, also a large guage 2 wire connector - middle of the board on the left hand side - as fitted to the TV (The PSU is mounted upside down)
