Symptom
Intermittent operation/ stuck in Standby
Cause
Possible int connections at P807 and / or P809 between the main PSU and the Low-B modules. Gently touching the interconnects may restore operation for a short time.
Cure
Remove the interconnects and check for loose connections.Try this.

old tvman, thank you for your prompt reply, but this is not the problem. It appears that the IC Q880, STR-W6765 is not coming on, it could of course be faulty. I would be gratefull if you have any other ideas.
Derek.

Done lots of these - it's always the STRW6765, Q880 as you rightly say.

Irwins do them for about £13.

Happy Christmas!

Hi GGTVBD I have now repaired this TV, as you said it was Q880, STRW6765. It is also available from CHS on account at £7-50.
Many thanks
Derek.

Hi Everyone,
I have just repaired my second Toshiba PSU with the same fault, so it seems very common, thought you would all like to know.

Same power supply used in both sets.

Very common fault.

Hiya,
I've just had the same problem as above, it did used to come on by turning the plug off and on again but now it's died. From what I can see it's the same problem. All fuses ok and no dry joints that I can see.
Do I take it I can just un-solder the heat sync (spelling?) and then solder a new STRW6765 in using a standard soldering iron? Or would this damage it?
I have done a fair bit of electronic repairs with cars although this job looks a bit tricky. If this doesn't work it'll go to the dump, so nothing to lose..

Thanks..Phil.

I have a Toshiba LCD 32WLT58 model and have a similar power supply problem. I have taken it to a local registered Toshiba repairer who has advised that the whole power supply board needs replacing but that when they tried to order it from Toshiba they said the part was no longer available and they got the same response from their other suppliers. The quoted cost of replacing the board (before I was advised the part could not be sourced) was also prohibitive - over £200 nearly as much as a new 32 inch LCD. They then offered to scrap the TV on my behalf.

Is the above reasonable or should I try and source the board elsewhere (there seem to be  many on ebay and the last poster had one (presumably used now). Advice gratefully received.

RXE:
Probably they want to replace the board with a new one so as to be able to guarantee the repair!

I have known one or to who will say 'its this or that' and offer to scrap the set and then go repair it and sell it as a reconditioned..... so always beware when folks offer to scrap your sets - they might just want a part out of it for a repair! Sorry, but I'm speaking from experience here as it happens to some folks who bring me their sets to repair.

I suppose the board could be repaired, but first you would have to consider changing all the aging electrolytic capacitors, they may look OK but might easily have gone high ESR, then it's down to finding the fault!

You don't say what voltage checks if any you have done.... this could prove very helpful, guessing what it is could prove expensive.
