Have one of these with a 4cm vertical black bar - any thoughts - Chris.

Try giving the ribbons a clean that address that part of the screen, also according to a certain website there can be a problem with the SMD resistors on the ribbon itself

hi chris
done lots of these , its usualy the smd resistors on the ribbon cable go dry joint.
they dont always look dry but you usualy find as you solder one end the resistor drops off. dont be afraid to get a bit of heat on the pad as they can tarnish and go dry again.

Knowing virtually nothing of plasma, are these ribbons along the bottom of the screen ?

yes thats right, there will about 6 or 8 (i forget) ribbon connectors running along the bottom of the screen, if the tv is on its face the ribbon you need will be just right of center, luckely these ones are easy to get to. disconnect from the pcb and fold back, you may have to take two screws out of a metal plate on the ribbon, you will then see the resistors 10r i think, been a couple of months since ive done one so memory a bit fogy.

In total ignorance was reading 'LG Plasma explained' and changing input and Digi panels like fury. Have always felt that reading any technical help is a total waste of time when a profitable answer is required.

Tell all my customers this, but they just nod and go on reading - passes the time, I suspect.
