Profilo and those popping caps
« on: September 28, 2010,11:54:44 »
Hi Folks,

Admit Profilo Telra aren't my fave in LCD - but there's lots about for some reason. Notice that 5v S/by and main 5v supply primary caps regularly pop and replacements (even of a higher capacity) fail before the guarantee period (2 weeks) is out.

Had a thought that any dual Shottky might just be duff on one side (but checked OK), but there again, on the original panel, 5v S/by had just a single Shottky, and was worse than most

Are there special low ESR caps (note that Wiltsgrove have a section for these - but sadly, no stock)

Just a thought, as this chap here wants his money back - Chris.

Hi chris as my mate dave said try charles hyde also cpc has a huge range. It might also be worth trying caps with a higher temp rating, you can get some low esr types that have a much higher temp rating than 105.
Personaly i always replace duff caps with low esr types where possible, especially on psu`s.

hi chris
have had the same problem, 1000uf cap popping just before warranty is up, chs do a 470uf 125 degree cap which if you fit 2 in parallel does the trick, havent had one bounce yet!
good luck

Hi, and thanks a lot.

Will check ChasHyde for suitable caps - The thought that my new 'Wiltsgrove' caps reading 000 (and fairly cheap) on my ESR meter makes me wonder if an additional secondary ceramic multi-layer cap of a muff or two might just be the biz with 100k'ish supplies ?

Ever on the cheap - excuse the muffs if not genuine trade - Chris.
