Hi D/J

I just love that sort'a confidence in our trade - bucks me no-end - Chris

Back to changing EY51's in projector tellies - worst thing was that oil - awful smelly, but cheap though these days, was only 2D per pint.

Hi

Just put your finger on the top of the capacitors and and you will feel the bulging top and if i was you I would change the two blue caps that chris pointed out. I have also had the mains smoother going open circuit as well

Hi Nem,

Some of them caps looked bulgy when piccied overhead, but sideways with extra salad cream -well, not so sure.

As Brian says, the main (big black thing in top middle) capacitor can be a prob, can be dry jointed to the board, but it usually pops mains fuse and PFC section when O/C.

Give us a pic from above in decent light and without the salad cream - we're hungry and easily deflected from telly mending - Chris.

So...
the repair kit went in - now the Set's still the same... i think my next move is to try those brown/gold caps as suggested... any other ideas?

Im at the stage where its quicker to bite the bullet and change any PSU beginning with 17PW..I picked one up online for just over £24 and delivered within 4 days just before Xmas. I know its not repairing to component level but at least you can then try to repair the board at your leisure.

Having now changed the brown/gold caps aswell the TV is the same... The main black Capacitor (C819?) top is domed and flexes under pressure... do i try this next or would i better finding a replacement PSU? ive checked the board base and i cant find any shorts there  :sign0085:

that sounds like the smoothing cap nem may be worth sourcing the psu however i have come a cropper before and resorted to obtaining a new psu to find out that the issue was on the main panel ?? have you been able to measure the voltages coming from the psu ?

well - i put this away and forgot about it - then the Mrs' spotted it hidden in the back of the wardrobe  :s_laugh:

Have changed main smoothing cap - installed repair kit and changed some Cap's that weren't in the kit!

still sitting there with a nice BRIGHT BLUE LED !!!

no response from any side buttons - dont know if the led should flash on buttons being pressed but it does nothing - dont have a bloody remote either :(
