still same ive given all the caps a resolder and tested all with a continuity test none of them seemed to beep...

i think im going to have to admit abject failure and buy a new telly  :c017:

don't beat yourself up about it even those of us that've been playin with tele's for a long time sometimes sacrifice a set due to the fact there's either insufficiant info on it or tracing diagnosing and repairing a tricky fault would simple cost more in time than the sets worth so if its any consolation it happens to us all !

ivebeen rethinking about it on the cold side of the power board theres only about 4/5 differnt size caps, ive priced them all up and for the full set its around £4-£5 on ebay where the replacement power board rolls in at around £50 so i might order a set of caps and try them one by one

if you've got the time to play about that might well work, its not unusual to get 2 or 3 caps on the secondary down so whack them all in don't be tempted to change them 1 at a time to see which is faulty as you could be easily caught out. You seem to have a fair grasp of what your about could you not maybe borrow a wee shot of an ERS cap tester and try that. I'm also still a little suspicious of the tcon board but that doesn't tie in with your buttons going haywire

ok first off sorry its been so long

new caps arrived today

havent fitted them yet as i had a brain wave and decided to try all the voltage lines with a multimeter

all the ones to the invertor (24v) are fine
all the other but one of the 5v seem fine

one of the 5v going to the control board is registering at 3.3v is this possible to be the issue?

could well be the 5 v lines shouldnt ever fall bellow about 4.5 v at a push low voltage would suggest a dodgy cap
as a rectified unsmoothed dc voltage is increased by  a multiple of roughly 1.4 when smoothed by a cap

repalced the 16v caps today (apart from two where ive managed to order 10v caps by accident :dubbio:)

all the voltage lines are now running about right

still the issues with the picture and with the channel buttons

currently thinking that this is likely to go on ebay as a whole unit ill probably change my mind later as i did want this one for the living room but i might just see if i could get a cheap broken one that is a little easyer to fix  :41:

thank you everyone for the help if you have any more ideas feel free to put them forward else wise this will join the other telly for sale
