samsung 46 inch repair

hi folks need help with my samsung lcd. it is a 46 inch model number LE46M87BD and the problem is that that the screen goes dark and distorted on the left in horizontal segments gradually going up the screen until the while left side has gone. if i switch it off for a while its ok for a couple of hours but it is getting worse. i want to try and repair it myself if i can because simply the callout fee that engineers are charging makes me feel ill so if anyone can help i would be eternally grateful.

hi there so far as im aware samsung suffer with 3 main issues .bulged caps in the psu/tcon panel (which is what id be thinking in your case from what you are saying /and dodgy eeproms/ the tcon panel is to the rear of the screen center top under a metal shield thats where id start what does the interfearence look like ?and what does the left hand side looke like when its gon is it completely black or is the backlight still on ?

thanks for responding. the backlight is still on but the picture is dark and distorted on the left but fine on the right. the problem is intermittent but is getting worse and sometimes it goes for hours without a problem. is this somthing i can repair myself? you seem very knowlegeable on this matter do you have some kind of manual that you can email me? where can i purchase the parts?

Hi Dazoldo,

Not had the prob myself on that set, but it could be a screen fault where heat from the tubes causes top screen connections to make or break - try twisting set top - could show something - Chris.

hi sorry i dont have a manual myself but give mr turnips method a try before you buy spares otherwise you could be wasting your money unfortunatly but id be going for the tcon panel if that doesnt work .dave
